Systomus albus Heckel View in CoL [J. J.] 1843: 1063 [73]; Type locality: Tigris and Orontes rivers. Syntypes: NMW 53674–77 (1, 1, 1, 1), 53680 (1), 91400 (1, dry);?SMF 812 [ex NMW in 1843] (1).

Systomus luteus Heckel [J. J.] 1843: 1061 [71]; Type locality: Mosul, Iraq. Lectotype: NMW 54253:2. Paralectotypes: NMW 10827 (1), 54247–49 (2, 1, 1), 54250 (2), 54253–55 (1, 3, 2), 80043 (2).?RMNH 2463 [ex NMW] (2); SMF 6784 [ex NMW in 1844] (1).

Systomus albus var. alpina Heckel [J. J.] 1847: 257; Type locality: Kara-Agatsch River, and Alpine lakes Pire-San und Deria Kaserun, Iran. Syntypes: NMW 53678–79 (5, 2), 53681–82 (2, 2);?RMNH 2464 [ex NMW] (2).

Barbus parieschanica Wossughi [G. H.], Khoshzahmat [A.] & Etemadfar [A.] 1983: 34; Type locality: Lake Parishan, Iran.

Diagnosis: Low count of scale, weakly ossified last unbranched dorsal fin ray, one or two pairs of barbels and orange lips.

Meristic characters: D: IV 9–11 (10), A: III 5–6, P: 14–17 (15–16), V: 7–9 (8), GR: 8–14, LL: 29–41(34– 35), TV: 36–40.

Distribution: Tigris, Persis , Hormuz, Maharlu Lake basins ( Fig. 100). Also reported from the Kor basin, but this must be confirmed. Found in Hor Alazim and Shadegan Wetlands; Pirbanoo and Simakan springs; and Helleh, Mehran, Zohre, Fahlian, Dalaki, Shapur, Mond, Dasht-e Palang, Gamasiab, Dinevar, Seymareh, Karun, Dez and Karkheh Rivers.

Taxonomy: Borkenhagen and Krupp (2013) considered Paralectotypes of Systomus luteus from Nahr Quwayq, near Aleppo [36°12'10"N, 37°9'31"E], Syria. Bianco and Bǎnǎrescu (1982) placed it in Carasobarbus .

Conservation: IUCN: Least Concern ( Freyhof 2014j).
