DISTRIBUTION. — Global distribution: Philippines, live in 155-167 m, Indonesia, New Caledonia to Vanuatu, live in 160-334 m (this paper), shells in 45 m ( Boissevain 1906) to 489 m (this paper). Distribution in the New Caledonian region: New Caledonia, shells in 220-250 m; Vanuatu, live in 160-334 m, shells to 489 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell up to 39.2 mm long, fragile, glossy, fresh shells translucent cream on anterior 2/3 to orange on posterior 1/3. Rapidly tapering to apex and well curved. Sculptured with fine growth lines only, dense and regularly spaced on apical portion. Apex with small callus projecting further on dorsal side than on ventral side, and short straight slit. Shell section circular throughout. Peristome slightly oblique, fragile.
Measurements of holotype: L 39.2, W 3.3, w 0.5, arc 2.5.
REMARKS. — Fustiaria mariae is similar to F. ceasura but the latter is smaller, less tapering and, more coloured.
ETYMOLOGY. — Named after Maria Boissevain for her pioneering work on Indonesian scaphopods.
