Liothrips setinodis (Reuter) View in CoL
( Figs 15 View FIGURES 15–21 , 30 View FIGURES 22–41 , 49 View FIGURES 47–52 , 58 View FIGURES 53–60 , 81 View FIGURES 80–88 )
Phloeothrips setinodis Reuter, 1880: 310 View in CoL .
Described from Aberdeen, Scotland, this species is widespread across Europe with three subsequent synonyms ( Uzel 1895; Karny 1912b; Priesner 1914; ThripsWiki 2023). Okajima (2006: 429) described L. hagai View in CoL from Japan as related to this species but comparing two type specimens of L. hagai View in CoL with three females of L. setinodis View in CoL from England, they can just be distinguished by the length of pronotal am and aa setae and the colouration of their antennae (see above key) ( Figs 49 View FIGURES 47–52 , 30 View FIGURES 22–41 ). Han (1997b), using the synonymic name L. hradecensis View in CoL , described and illustrated the species from Sichuan, China, but with no collection details. No specimens from China have been seen that can be identified confidently as the European species L. setinodis ( Mound et al. 2018) View in CoL . However, a female from Guangxi has been studied that is remarkably similar in structure, but differs in having the metanotum more closely striate medially ( Fig. 81 View FIGURES 80–88 ).
Specimens studied. CHINA, Guangxi, Maoershan , one female on grasses, 3.vi.2011, L.H. Dang ( NZMC) . ENGLAND, Kent, Shoreham , two females on Fagus , 25.vi.1978, W. R . Dolling ( ANIC) ; Oxfordshire, Lambridge Wood , one female, 27.vi.2014, A. Polaszek ( ANIC) .
