Calvariopsis guyanense sp. nov.

( Figs 1T View FIGURE 1 , 22 View FIGURE 22 )

Type material. Holotype, male ( NHM): “ GUYANA ix-xi.1992 \ Kurupukari \ 4°40’ N: 58°40’ W \ Malaise /FIT \ BMNH{E} 2006-132”.

Diagnosis. Small (TL 2.0 mm), oval, brown. Tegmen with basal apodemes, tergite VIII with V-shaped emar- gination flanked with two denticles. Male genital features resemble those of C. brasiliense (Pic) , but emargination of central portion of tergite VIII is shallower in C. guyanense sp. nov.

Description. Male. Body oval, convex, covered with whitish, suberect setae. Dorsum brown, posterior portion of pronotum and scutellar shield slightly darker, venter brown, legs and antennae yellowish. Head very broad, 1.8× wider than width of interocular space, with fine punctation, punctures very small, separated by a 2.0–3.0× diameter of a puncture, eyes moderately large, not protuberant. Pronotum transverse, widest at its base. Disc of pronotum with fine, granulate punctation, punctures separated by ca. 2.0× diameter of a puncture. Posterior margin of pronotum subtly bisinuate. Anterior angles protruding anteriorly, subtriangular, posterior angles obtuse. Scutellar shield subtriangular, covered with subtle punctation. Elytra oblong, without traces of longitudinal ridges, widest in the middle of their length, sides curved, regularly converging to apex in posterior 1/3. Humeri well marked. Punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures elongate, distance between punctures ca. the diameter of a puncture.

Male genitalia. Penis (L 0.53 mm, W 0.07 mm, Fig 22A View FIGURE 22 ) narrow, with curved sides, parameroids short, curved, with subtriangular apices, trigonium subtriangular, short. Tegmen (L 0.35 mm, W 0.14 mm, Fig 22B View FIGURE 22 ) U-shaped, with apodemes in basal portion, apices of parameres rounded, not setose. Sternite IX (L 0.21 mm, W 0.12 mm, Fig 22B View FIGURE 22 ) subtriangular, with single, relatively long apodeme, apical margin rounded, covered with short, sparse setae. Tergite VIII (L 0.31 mm, W 0.28 mm, Fig 22C View FIGURE 22 ) with shallow, V-shaped emargination of apical margin, and two distinct denticles in lateral portions of apical margin, apical margin not setose, apodemes as long as apical plate. Tergite IX (L 0.26 mm, W 0.24 mm, Fig 22D View FIGURE 22 ) with membranous and relatively narrow apical plate, apodemes as long as apical plate, strongly diverging.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements and ratios. Male (n = 1) TL 2.00 mm, PL 0.40 mm, PW 1.03 mm, EL 1.67 mm, EW 1.40 mm, TL/EW 1.43, PW/PL 2.58, EL/EW 1.19, EL/PL 4.17.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Guyana.

Etymology. Named after Guyana, where the type locality of the species is located.
