NOTES: Lister (1911) in the description of the variety mentions two collections “ Bohemia (BM 3039); Holstein (BM

3040)”, both in BM. Specimen BM 3039, is material of L.F. Čelakovský described as “ A. dictyonema Cel. fil, Myxom.

Bohm. P. 27., non Rostaf.”. In notebook XII: 112, G.Lister refers to this collections as “ A. albida var. carnea Lister ”

and as Arcyria sp. nov., but in the comments concludes that it is A. ferruginea . However in the second edition of the monograph (Lister 1911) she recognises it as different, calls it A. cinerea var. carnea G. Lister , based on these same specimens, and describes it.

Specimen BM 3040 has on the sheet label “ Arcyria cinerea (Bull.) Persoon var. carnea Lister, Weinberg , near

Prentz, Holstein 9.7.1907 leg. Dr. H. Rönn ”. We chose the first ( BM 3039 ) as the lectotype as it was an earlier collection ,

( Bohemia: 2.9.1889), is the same Čelakovský material commented on in her notebook, and it is in good condition.

The var. carnea (“flesh-coloured”) was raised to species rank by G. Lister (1921a), but the name was illegitimate and unavailable for use as it is a later homonym of A. carnea Schumach., 1803 (ICN, art. 53.1, McNeill et al. 2012), so the next available name was A. minuta Buchet.
