Typus: Didymium oculatum C. Lippert, Verh. Zool. - Bot. Ges. Wien 44: 72 (1895) ≡ Colloderma oculatum (C. Lippert) G. Lister, J. Bot. View in CoL 48: 312 (1910).
NOTES: G. Lister (1910b: 312) proposed a new genus based on the description of Didymium oculatum C. Lippert and after studying specimens sent by Rev. W. Cran. G. Lister wrote “ He discovered last September about twenty of the minute sporangia on moss and hepatics on dead wood, in two localities about four miles apart, near Skene , Aberdeenshire.” In BM we found one box of material in good condition ( BM 3193 ), from Skene , Aberdeen, Sept. 1910. There is one slide with the same data, engraved 901. There are two further slides (2, 3) from the same place (dated “8.10), with reference to W. Cran and notebook XXIX: 95, and noted “1 st. British gathering” (slide 3), and “2 nd. gathering” (slide 2). In the notebook there is a detailed description of the origin and characteristics of the material with illustrations of the two gatherings and part of the text of the publication .
