NOTES: Lister (1897: 216) commented “on dead leaves of oak, hornbeam, &c, rarely on wood” and later “The character of the spiral bands is a constant one, as evidenced by gatherings by Prof. I. Bayley Blafour at Moffat about the year 1879; by Mr. J. Saunders at Pepperstock, Beds. in Oct. 1894; and by ourselves in the Black Forest near Freiburg, repeatedly in the neighbourhood of Lyme Regis, and abundantly in Epping Forest”.
In BM two collections ( BM 1719 and BM 2942 ) were located marked “Type collection”. We designate the first as the lectotype as it is well conserved and was collected by the author himself. It also has a specific reference in the original publication. The second collection ( BM 2942 ) has a slide (6) and we consider it to be a syntype. This variety was raised to the rank of species by Meylan (1927) .
