Type (lectotype, designated here):— PERU. AREQUIPA: Camaná: s.d., H. Ruiz L. & J. A. Pavón J. 12/50 (MA-810458!; isolectotypes MA-810459!, MA-810460!). Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 .

Notes:—The protologue of Commelina hispida provided the following information on the type: “ HABITAT in Camanae Provinciae collibus Atiquipa, vulgo Lomas de Atiquipa, ubi Joannes Tafalla descripsit et delineavit”. I was able to locate three syntypes: MA-810458, MA-810459 and MA-810460. Furthermore, an illustration plate (tab. 73[a] in Ruiz & Pavón s.d.) was cited in the protologue and is therefore also original material. The three syntypes and the original illustration are in accordance with the morphological information provided in the protologue. All things considered, I designate the specimen MA-810458 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) as lectotype of C. hispida , because it is the best specimen among the available original material. This species was described from Peru, and to this date its distribution and conservation status are not clear, thus warranting urgent taxonomic studies.
