Diagnosis. Adult ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 41 – 46 –47). Wingspan 40–44 mm. T. funebris is easy identified species with odd appearance resembling Trichosea spp. Male ground colour white; female white with blackish dusting or dark greyish with whitish dusting and white crosslines. Main elements of wing pattern black in male formed by dentate basal, antemedial and subterminal lines; medial shadow well defined, black with white spots on veins; orbicular as white spot on black background; subterminal line as three dentate black dashes with white spots on veins; cilia black and white. Female darker, with greyish medial field, white crosslines outlined with black and white terminal field. Hindwing yellow basally, with broad greyish-brown terminal band; in female terminal band wider than in male; cilia black with white. The species is rather variable in wing pattern, black suffusion may cover medial field, while the main elements of wing pattern are constant.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 107 – 109 ). The male genitalia of T. funebris resemble those of T. variegata , but differ by structure of uncus, shape of harpe and shape of aedeagus and armature of vesica. Uncus moderate long, belt-like; tegumen broad, about two times shorter than vinculum, with small penicular extensions; vinculum V-shaped, with saccus; transtilla with broad lobes; juxta shield-like, broad; valva large, moderate long, slightly curved distally, with parallel margins, slightly extended in distal part and constricted to apex, having almost straight distal margin; harpe lies in distal third of valva, relatively short and thin, bearing apically pointed extension; not reach distal margin of valva. Aedeagus relatively short, narrower basally, extended apically, slightly curved, extended apically; carina not expressed; vesica bulbous-tubular with short basal and large medial diverticula, bearing large patch of moderate cornuti in apical part.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 128 View FIGURES 124 – 130 ). Male genitalia of T. funebris differ from those of its congeners by very broad papillae anales, elongate cup-like antrum, rather short ductus bursae and by presence of extremely large sclerotised lateral extension on corpus bursae. Ovipositor quadrangular, very broad, papillae anales broad; anterior and posterior apophyses very short, antrum deep cup-like; ductus bursae rather short, membranous, corpus bursae elongate-rounded, bearing extremely large sclerotised and ribbed lateral extension.
Distribution and bionomy. North Myanmar, North Vietnam, Southwest China (Prov. Sichuan). The species occurs at elevation 1500–2000 m. Moth flies in March, April and May.
