Protearomyia hermonensis MacGowan & Freidberg, 2008 View in CoL
These notes supplement the original description of the male genitalia in MacGowan and Freidberg (2008).
Male terminalia ( Figs. 27–31 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ). Epandrium slightly higher than wide, cerci hardly projecting from beyond the shell of the epandrium ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ). Surstyli markedly serrated on ventral margins, no distinct posteroventral denticles present ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ). Hypoproct broad and disc-like, apically forming two short, relatively broad processes with a bluntly angled apex, outer margins with numerous finger–like processes ( Figs. 28 & 29 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ). Phallus ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ) Ushaped, much shorter and stouter than in the other Palearctic species, apical section very weakly sclerotized and under higher magnification with a recurved tip, lightly sclerotized lateral phlanges basally. Phallic guide ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ) U-shaped, slightly flared at apices, with a pair of small inner processes, without basal ventral projections.
Differential diagnosis. With hypoproct disc-like, the lack of an enlarged ventral process to the epandrium, and phallic guide without ventral projections; this species is most similar to P. greciana .
Abbreviations; C = cercus, H = hypoproct, S = surstylus.
