Leaf beetle species with uncertain status in Turkish fauna
Some leaf beetle species that were recorded from Turkey erroneously and whose occurrences in Turkey need confirmation are excluded from the list and included here.
Donacia apricans Lacordaire, 1845 – Sahlberg (1913) recorded this species as Donacia andalusiaca Kraatz, 1869 from Mersin (MER) province. Also, Borowiec (1984) and Warchałowski (2003) recorded this species from Turkey without exact locality, but both authors also put a question mark for these records. Silfverberg (2010) did not report this species from Turkey. Therefore, presence of this species is questionable, in our opinion.
Tituboea laticollis (Olivier 1808) – This species was mentioned from Asia Minor in Warchałowski (2003) with a question mark. The species was not recorded from Turkey in Regalin and Medvedev (2010). Its presence in Turkey is uncertain, in our opinion.
Cryptocephalus creticus Suffrian, 1847 , C. concolor Suffrian, 1847 , C. corinthius Pic, 1914 , C. inaequalis Fairmaire, 1902 , C. laevicollis Gebler, 1830 , C. reitteri Weise, 1882 , C. violaceus Laicharting, 1781 and Pachybrachis flexuosus Weise, 1882 – According to Sassi and Kısmalı (2000), these species were questionable or erroneous records from Turkey. We agree with Sassi and Kısmalı (2000).
Chrysolina lucidicollis Küster, 1845 – this species was reported from Turkey by Aslan, Gruev et al. (2003) as a subspecies, Chrysoloina gypsophilae lucidicollis , which is now regarded as a separate species. The species is distributed in the Iberian Peninsula, Morocco and Tunisia. The presence in Turkey is doubtful, in our opinion.
Timarcha nicaeensis Villa, 1835 – This species was also reported by Aslan, Gruev et al. (2003), but the authors mentioned that the record is questionable.
Acmenychus caucasicus (Heyden 1878) , A. inermis (Zoubkoff 1833) , and A. planus Maulik, 1919 – Kısmalı (1989) reported these species from Turkey, but stated that their presence in Turkey needs further confirmation.
Atysa diversicornis Pic, 1931 – was described from Turkey as Falsoplatyxantha diversicornis based on wrong label; however, it is an Oriental species and does not occur in Turkey.
Cassida deflorata Suffrian, 1844 – According to Warchałowski (2003), this species was reported from Turkey but perhaps erroneously.
Altica cyanea Weber, 1801 – According to Aslan et al. (1999), the record of this species from Turkey is questionable.
Psylliodes cretica Weise, 1888 – This species was recorded in Sahlberg (1913) from Lesbo (as Anatolia) which is actually in the boundary of Greece. The record of this species from Turkey is questionable.
