Material examined: INDONESIA, SUMATRA, SW, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Pemerihan, beating mixed cultivated trees, 640m, 1 female, 7.I.1996, ESK.

Remarks. The identity of this individual remains tentative, and is made in the interests of parsimony as not clearly separable from the only species of the genus reported previously from Sumatra. New (1978) tentatively attributed a female specimen collected from Pahang, Malaysia, to this species. He noted that the fore wing pattern of the specimen differs somewhat from the type as figured by Enderlein (1903), the area of dark pigment between the radial fork and cell M2 lacking in Enderlein’s figure. New referred the specimen to C. lemniscata , rather than describing it as a new species on wing marking alone. Later, it was transferred to a new species, C. newi Smithers & Thornton (1981) , on the grounds that wing marking differences suggested that it was ‘probably not conspecific with C. lemniscata …’. In fore wing pattern the above specimen is very similar to that depicted by New (1978), and details of individual variation cannot at present be clarified. Clematoscenea lemniscata has been recorded from Sumatra by Enderlein (1907), and - cautiously - this is the second record of the species from the island.

The following new species is separable on having setae on basal fore wing veins, but the fore wing markings suggest strong affinity with the above species.
