subgen. nov.

Subgenus Tortrilema subgen. n.

Type species: Lithosia postmaculosa Matsumura, 1927 .

Diagnosis. Species of the new subgenus ( Figs 1–8 View Figures 1–8 ) differ clearly from those of Manulea s. str. and Nyea (illustrated by Dubatolov & Zolotuhin (2011) and Witt et al. (2011)) in the wider forewing having a postmedially strongly convex costal margin and an elongate apex. Such a forewing shape is unique within the genus Manulea and is more similar to that of certain members of the genus Teulisna Walker, 1862 . The forewing markings of Tortrilema subgen. n. are represented by shade-like transverse lines and round spots in the medial area whereas the forewing of Manulea s. str. and Nyea is monotonous or has a pale costal stripe. The male genital capsules of the subgenera are similar but in Tortrilema subgen. n. ( Figs 9–14 View Figures 9–12 View Figures 13–17 ), the vinculum is somewhat shorter than in Manulea s. str. and Nyea (illustrated by Dubatolov & Zolotuhin (2011) and Witt et al. (2011)). The vesica of the new subgenus bears a single elongate and narrow cornutus while the vesicae of Manulea s. str. and Nyea bear a few short thorn-like cornuti or one large cornutus strongly dilated basally. The female genitalia of the subgenera display no remarkable differences. The subgenus can be subdivided into two species-groups different in both the external appearance and the genitalia structures of both sexes.

Distribution. Species of the genus are known from southwestern and southern mainland China, Taiwan Island and northern Indochina (northern Vietnam).

Etymology. The generic name is an aggregate of the family name Tortricidae and the genus name Eilema and refers to the unusual forewing shape reminiscent of that of members of the family Tortricidae .
