Main distinguishing characteristics. Idiosomal shields lightly sclerotised. Ratio s4 / R1>3.0; setae z2 and z4 usually short/minute (except in some Amblyseius Berlese , some Transeius Chant & McMurtry and some Graminaseius Chant & McMurtry ); S2, S4, S5 and dorso-central setae usually short to minute. Sternal shield usually about as long as or longer than wide (except in Chelaseius and a few other groups); ventrianal shield usually longer than wide; ectal strip (as defined by Chant & McMurtry, 2004b) rarely present.
