Type species. Amblyseius graminis Chant, 1956: 34 .
Main distinguishing characteristics. Dorsal shield mostly smooth. Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:9B/JV-3:ZV; setae s4, Z4 and Z5 distinctly larger than most other setae; ratio s4 / S2>3.0. Sternal shield usually slightly wider than long. Ventrianal shield pentagonal. Spermathecal calyx saccular; atrium bifurcate/vacuolate at juncture with major duct. Fixed cheliceral digit with 3–5 teeth distad pilus dentilis (occasionally with other two teeth basally; with 10 evenly distributed teeth along the digit in G. bahiensis Ferragut & Carvalho View in CoL ); movable digit with 0–1 tooth (with three teeth in G. bahiensis View in CoL ). Macrosetae of legs II –IV, most often sharp-tipped; in some species, blunt or knobbed. Male ventrianal shield with 3–6 pairs of pre-anal setae; spermadactyl T-shaped.
Remarks. Only one of the 18 valid species presently included in this genus has been reported from Brazil, known only from its original description. Worldwide, species of this genus have been reported from plants and soil.
