Otostigmus amazonae Chamberlin, 1914 View in CoL
Type locality. Manaus, state of Amazonas.
Brazilian published records. Amapá. Serra do Navio. Amazonas. Manaus. Pará. Belém. Mato Grosso. Barra do rio Tapirapé ( Bücherl, 1974).
New records. Pará. Altamira, ponto 1 sismógrafo, 9.iv.2009, A. Giupponi & D. Pedroso (MNR 15488).
Remarks. Otostigmus amazonae is mainly known from northern Brazil ( Figure 40 View FIGURE 40 ), but has been recorded from Peru as well. Bücherl (1943) revised Chamberlin’s and Attems’ identification keys for Brazilian Otostigmus and examined series of specimens of the five species described by Chamberlin (1914), including O. amazonae . He concluded that none of the characters used to characterize Chamberlin’s species were good, particularly those for females. The holotype of O. amazonae was not examined, but I found a specimen from Altamira, state of Pará that agreed in many aspects with O. amazonae sensu Chamberlin (1914) . Otostigmus amazonae resembles the female of O. tibialis by the dorsal integument smooth, tergites without keel, and short incomplete paramedian sutures and depression in sternites.
