Distribution in Iran. Guilan ( Samin et al. 2011).
General distribution. Throughout Europe, Azerbaijan, Israel, Kazakhstan, Turkey, through Russia to northern China, Korea, Japan.
Biology. The species breeds primarily in Pinus and Picea , less frequently in Larix and Abies (Pinaceae) . Recorded in Iran from Pinus sylvestris ( Samin et al. 2011) . The biology and gallery system are described by Chararas (1962). Balachowsky (1949) and Yanovskij (1999) note outbreaks of the species in fire-damaged forests, but the species is not known to attack healthy trees.
