Distribution in Iran. Guilan (Amini et al. 2012; Amini et al. 2013), generally distributed ( Modarres Awal 1997), Iran (no locality cited) ( Mifsud & Knížek 2009; Knížek 2011).

General distribution. Europe except for the Far North, North Africa, Turkey, Central Asia, Russia, China. Introduced into North America .

Biology. This species breeds in a range of trees, usually in the family Rosaceae , but also in Salicaceae and Ulmaceae ( Michalski 1973) . Recorded in Iran from Malus sp. ( Amini et al. 2013), Cotoneaster sp., Crataegus sp., Cydonia oblonga , Malus orientalis , Pyrus communis , Sorbus sp. ( Rosaceae ), Juglans regia (Juglandaceae) , Ulmus spp . ( Ulmaceae ) ( Modarres Awal 1997). The gallery system is described by Balachowsky (1949) and Michalski (1973).
