scientific name

Centris (Melanocentris) rhodoprocta Moure & Seabra, 1960
status

Centris (Melanocentris) rhodoprocta Moure & Seabra, 1960 View in CoL

Centris analis Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL . 152 (junior secondary homonym of Anthophora analis Fabricius, 1804 View in CoL ).

Type data: There was found a single female with original Lepeletier’s label at MNHP. Moure & Seabra (1960) found another female considered “type” at OUMNH (not examined), choosing the MNHP specimen as the lectotype. The exemplar has the following data label: analis [handwritten]\ [green label] Museum Paris [printed] Brésil ou Cayenne [handwritten]\ Type Lepelletier [handwritten]\ pyropyga Spin. 41 Sm. [handwritten]\ Centris pyropyga var. analis Lep. ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [red label] Holotype [handwritten]\ MNHN, Paris EY25581 [data matrix code] [printed] ( MNHP). According to the original description, the lectotype belonged to Dejean’s collection and currently is in good condition. Subsequent designation: Moure & Seabra (1960).

Type locality: Lepeletier (1841) listed the type locality as “Patrie inconnue” due to the incongruence contained on the label about the provenance of the specimen ( Brazil or Cayenne in French Guiana) .

Centris (Melanocentris) rhodoprocta Moure & Seabra, 1960 View in CoL . 110, 111 (nom. nov. for C. analis Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL ).

Comment: Centris rhodoprocta has been recorded in Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador ( Moure et al., 2007).
