Type data: This species was described based on an undetermined number of females collected in São Paulo, Brazil. A single female bearing original Lepeletier’s label was found at MNHP being here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: bimaculata [handwritten]\ [circular label] du nord de la Capite de St Paul [handwritten]\ Type Lepelletier [handwritten]\ Type [printed in red ink]\ Museum Paris nord de la Capit de St Paul [printed]\ type bimaculata [handwritten]\ Museum Paris EY0000003592 [printed] ( MNHP).

Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo state .

Type data: Lepeletier (1841) did not mention how many males he used to describe this species. A single male studied by him was found at MHNP being here designated as the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: fuscata [handwritten]\ [circular label] du nord de la Capite de St Paul [handwritten]\ Type Lepelletier [handwritten]\ Type [printed in red ink]\ Museum Paris nord de la Capit de St Paul [printed]\ Centris bimaculata Lep. ♂ [handwrit- ten] det. Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo state .

Comments: No additional specimens labelled with the names cited above were found at MNHP or OUMNH. The lectotypes are in relatively good condition, but both are dirty with plaster. Taxonomic decision for synonymy: Moure (1943).

This species has been recorded from Mexico to Argentina ( Roig-Alsina, 2000; Moure et al., 2007). However, its distribution range is restricted to Brazil (unpubl. data).
