Diagnosis. Body colour metallic black, abdomen uniformly metallic black with no evident marks; posterior margin of eye straight; female with the crossed setae on frontal vitta closer to each other than to eye margin; antenna and arista dark, anterior katepisternal seta developed; notopleuron with ground setulae; fore tarsomeres white ventrally, especially in male; wing entirely covered with microtrichia; male aedeagus with praegonite with 2 setae. Male terminalia as in Figs 116, 123, 127 and 131 and female ovipositor as in Figs 136 and 137, all in Pont (1973a).

Comments. This species was first recorded from Vanuatu (as Ophyra chalcogaster ) by Sabrosky (1949). Pont (1973a) redescribed the species (also as Ophyra chalcogaster ).
