Gonatistella nigropicta ( Westwood, 1889)

Described from a series of specimens from “ Australia ”, this species has not been collected since. I have inspected the only syntype that can be located, and I find it extremely likely that the specimen has been mislabelled. Its purported closest relatives ( Gonatista Saussure, 1869 , Epaphrodita Audinet-Serville, 1831 , and Callimantis Stål, 1877 ) are confined to the Americas ( Patel et al. 2016; Schwarz & Roy 2019), and thus I conclude that this species was almost certainly not collected in Australia. It is here removed from the Australian list.
