TYPE LOCALITY: U.S.A., California, San Bernardino Co., near Rabbit Springs, about 15 mi. (24 km) E. Hesperia .
DISTRIBUTION: N.W. Mohave Desert and Owens Valley (S. California, U.S.A.).
COMMENT: Subgenus Xerospermophilus ; see Hall, 1981:405. Gromov et al., 1965:151, considered Xerospermophilus a distinct genus. Type locality designated by Grinnell and Dixon, 1918, Mon. Bull. Calif. Comm. Hort., 7:667.
