Taxonomic note
DNA barcodes suggest several genetically distinct clusters within bats currently referred to R. thomasi ( Francis et al., 2010) . Some of these have been labelled as R. rouxii , but further taxonomic study comparing morphology, echolocation calls and genetics is needed to determine whether any of these represent distinct species and, if so, what are the appropriate names.
