Description. General: ( Figs 317, 318 View FIGURES 315 – 320. 315, 316 ) Body length 4.1mm. Arista short plumose. M1+2 ratio 4.3. First flagellomere enlarged, slightly produced dorsally, more broadly lobate ventrally. Clypeus broad, thick. Male unknown.
Chaetotaxy: Four fronto-orbital setae, decreasing in size anteriorly with anterior seta setula-like. Ocellar seta strong, twice length of tubercle. Postvertical thin, slightly longer than ocellar tubercle. Interfrontal seta welldeveloped, slightly longer than ocellar tubercle. First flagellomere on distal margin with hairs longer than width of base of arista. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior dorsocentral; closely set near posterior margin of scutum. Acrostichal seta present. One small lateral scutellar seta.
Colour: Setae brown. Head whitish-yellow below antenna; frons and mouthparts with orange tint; first flagellomere dark brown to point of pedicel, light yellow below; apex of palpus and dorsal margin of clypeus brown; back of head with one pair of brown stripes radiating from foramen; gena and postgena silvery tomentose. Scutum yellow with lateral ¼ and narrow medial stripe brown excluding small elongate yellow spot presuturally in medial stripe. Scutellum yellow with brown anteromedial spot and anterolateral corners narrowly brown.
Metanotum light yellow with anatergite (except anteroventral region) and mediotergite brown. Distal half of wing slightly infuscated along anterior margin. Halter white with base of knob brownish. Pleuron and legs yellowishwhite with posterior region of anepisternum yellow. Abdomen brown with terminalia yellow.
Female terminalia: ( Fig. 345 View FIGURES 339 – 346 ) Tergite and sternite 6 with thick, basal, sclerotized band. Sternite 6 slightly wider than long. Sternite 7 longer than wide, and with narrow sclerotized posteromedial band. Base of ventral receptacle transversely wrinkled. Spermatheca ovate (widest subbasally), dark and with scattered pale basal spots.
Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the four fronto-orbital setae, compounding the Greek for four (tetra) and hair (thrix).
Distribution: Australia (northern QLD).
Holotype: AUSTRALIA. N. Qld.: 25km up Mt. Lewis Rd., 1000m, 22.iv.1994, roadside pools, 16°32′S, 145°17′E, B.J. Sinclair (1♀, CNC).
Comments: The new species Allometopon tetrathrix is known only from the female holotype collected in northern Queensland, but this specimen is distinct enough in external appearance to warrant description as a new species. It is similar to the more southerly A. perkinsi ( Fig. 207 View FIGURES 205 – 211 ), but the scutum has a thick brown stripe along the anterior and lateral margins and there is a strong medial stripe that encloses a narrow yellow spot anteriorly. The medial stripe also continues onto the anteromedial region of the scutellum, which is otherwise yellow excluding a brown infuscation is the lateral corner. There are also four fronto-orbital setae (not three), the dorsum of the first flagellomere is more extensively brown, the setulae on the frons are dark and distinct, the apex of the palpus and the dorsal margin of the clypeus are brown, and there is only one lateral scutellar seta.
