TYPE LOCALITY: “ Americae meridionalis [ South America ]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (in a vial) ( MRSN: Box 1796): Nycteribia Messico (Sallé) 633 / Nycteribia bellardii Messico Rnd. / Sur des Chauves …. a Cordoba / Basilia bellardii ( Rondani, 1878a) Hosp. Desconhecido Proc. Cordoba ( Mexico), Lectotipo ♀ Exemplar examinado por Guimarães e d’Andretta em 1953.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Basilia bellardi (Guimarães 1868b: 1) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1878a: 152) described Nycteribia bellardii from two specimens without specifying their sex, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Exemplaria duo observavi Musei Prof. A. Bellardi [I observed two specimens in Prof. A. Bellardi’s Museum]”. Guimarães & d’Andretta (1956: 56) designated a lectotype (♀). The second specimen is presumed lost.
