ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 195 (key), 200 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie agri parmensis et semel ab Insubria missa [Parmese plains and Insubria (= Lombardy) ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 21): Pollenia Desv. / levis Rndn. / 1102 / lectotype ♂, Pollenia levis Rondani, 1862 , des. K. Rognes, 1990 / Pollenia atramentaria Mg., K. Rognes det., 1990.
PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 2 ♂♂ ( MZUF: Box 21): Pollenia Desv. / levis Rndn. / 1102 / paralectotype ♂, Pollenia levis Rondani, 1862 , des. K. Rognes, 1990 / Pollenia atramentaria Mg., K. Rognes det., 1990; 1 ♀ (abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 21): Pollenia Desv. / levis Rndn. / 1102 / paralectotype ♀, Pollenia levis Rondani, 1862 , des. K. Rognes, 1990 / Pollenia atramentaria Mg., K. Rognes det., 1990.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pollenia atramentaria ( Meigen, 1826) ( Schumann 1986: 45, Pape et al. 1995: 10).
REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 200) described Pollenia levis , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material he had collected and also received from E. Turati. Rognes (1991a: 365) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂, 1 ♀).
