CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sapromyza quadripunctata (Linnaeus, 1767) ( Papp 1984a: 211) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 250) proposed Sapromyza bisbinotata for Sapromyza quadripunctata (Linnaeus, 1767) sensu Zetterstedt (1847: 2329) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Zetterstedt’s redescription of Sapromyza quadripunctata , which was based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to a single male received from S. Bertolini. Therefore, the type material is in the collections of Zetterstedt (MZLU) and Rondani (MZUF). There are 12 syntypes in the MZLU and two males in the MZUF: these specimens did not have any label indicating their type status. We are unable to single out the single male received from S. Bertolini upon which Rondani based his description and we leave the recognition of this syntype to a future specialist.
