Campogaster parvulus Rondani, 1856

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 80.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1861e: 150) added “ in planitiae agri parmensis [ Parmese plains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Microsoma exigua ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 398; O’Hara et al. 2020: 94).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 80) key for the genus Campogaster Rondani, 1856 lists Campogaster parvulus as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. In his redescription Rondani (1861e: 150) specified having more than one male: “ Mares tantum et raro inveni [I found only males and rarely]”. We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. The OUMNH contains a specimen, labeled “ Type ” from “ Wien ” [Vienna], which is not the type locality.
