Diagnosis. Oplitid mites with moustache-like internal malae and without any strongly sclerotised dorsal structures. Idiosoma circular. Marginal and dorsal shield fused on anterior region of idiosoma. Perigenital line present, anterior and posterior parts undulate. Pre-anal furrow present. Prestigmatid part of peritreme with one bend (V- or U-shaped), poststigmatid part short and straight.

Type species. Uroplitella conspicua Berlese, 1903: 250 , by original designation.

Note. When Hischmann (1979) described the genus Stammeroplitis , only the type species was explicitly listed as a member of this genus. All of the other Stammeroplitis species are presented here as new combinations. The genus Stammeroplitis is very similar to Oplitis Berlese, 1884 ( Oplitis paradoxa group in Hirschmann) and Berleseoplitis Hirschmann, 1979 ( Oplitis minutissima group) (see Hirschmann, 1991) but these three genera differ from each other in the shape of the peritreme. The prestigmatid part of the peritreme is narrow and U or V-shaped in Stammeroplitis , it is very complex and mushroom-shaped in Oplitis , and it is wide and rectangular in Berleseoplitis. This character seems to be stable and provides a simple way of recognising these genera.
