Type: — CROATIA. Central Dalmatia: Isola di Brač, Pučišća, Dalmazia centrale, 7 August 2005, Bogdanović s.n. (holotype CAT!; isotypes CAT!, ZAGR!) ( Figs. 24 View FIGURE 24 , 53 View FIGURE 53 ) .
Diagnosis: — Planta glabra , dense foliosa secus partem superiorem caudicularum, foliis rugosis, spathulatis, retusis ad rotundatis, revolutis margine, 1-nervis, scapis numerosis, erectis, rigidis, scabris, ramis sterilibus numerosis, inflorescentia erecta, reticulata, ramosa, spicis rectis, bractea inferiore ovato-triangulare, subobtusa, glabra , bractea superiore glabra , rotundata, calice tubo piloso base, lobis hemiellipticis, rotundatis.
Description: —Plant perennial, 21–50 cm tall, rigid, glabrous, with robust tap-root. Caudices branched, 1–4 cm long, covered by leaves in the upper part. Leaves rigid, rugose, glabrous, green, 7–20 mm long, 1.5–4 mm wide, spathulate, revolute at the margin, 1-nerved, tapering into a long petiole, slightly retuse to rounded at the apex. Stems numerous, erect, rigid, rough, glabrous, with numerous sterile branches, flexuous, fragile at nodes, very branched, diverging at the angle of 80–180°, internodes 2–30 mm long, right to slightly curved. Inflorescence erect, reticulate, branched; spikes 0.6–3 cm long, straight. Spikelets 5–6 mm long, 1–2-flowered, 4–5 per cm; outer bract 1.2–1.5 mm long, 1.3–1.6 mm wide, triangular-ovate, subobtuse, membranous at margin, glabrous, with central part fleshy, acuminate; middle bract 1.8–2.2 mm long, 1.4–1.8 mm wide, ovate, obtuse to rounded at the apex, membranous, glabrous; inner bract 3.5–4 mm long, 2.2–2.7 mm wide, glabrous, oblong, rounded, with margin membranous, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, with central part fleshy, glabrous, 1.5–1.8 mm wide, acuminate, forming a triangular tip, 0.4–0.7 mm long, almost reaching the upper margin. Calyx 4.4–4.6 mm long, exserted 1.4–2 mm from the inner bract, tube base and ribs densely hairy, ribs exceeding the base of the lobes; calyx lobes, hemielliptical, 0.8–0.9 × 0.7–0.8 mm, rounded. Corolla lilac.
Etymology: —This species is dedicated to I. Trinajstić, Croatian botanist from University of Zagreb.
Distribution and ecology: —This species occurs in the Brač island (central Dalmatia) ( Fig. 30A View FIGURE 30 ). It grows in the narrow belt between the shoreline and the pinewoods, within halophilous communities.
