Type:— DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, s.c., s.n. ( L!) .

Thallus corticolous, off-white to pale fawn, continuous, smooth, dull. Lirellae erumpent, with a basal to partly thick lateral thalline margin, short to elongate, slender, not branched or rarely trifurcate, labia convergent, rarely slightly divergent, entire, black, not pruinose, disc usually not, or only rarely visible from above, blackish to brownish, not or very slightly whitish pruinose ( lineola -morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium inspersed; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely septate, 6–8-septate, 20–31 × 6–8 μm, 5–11-septate, 25–35 × 7–8 μm (holotype, Lücking 2009), 25–45 × 5–9 μm (Lücking 2009).

Chemistry: norstictic acid (major), subnorstictic acid (minor), connorstictic acid (minor) (anal. J. Sutjaritturakan & K. Kalb).

Distribution and habitat:—probably pantropical, reported from U.S. A. Florida ( Seavey et al. 2017), West Indies, Costa Rica, Europe, Portugal ( Lepista & Aptroot 2016), Madagascar ( Aptroot & Sparrius 2008 –present), India, Japan, the Philippines, Vanatu, Australia (Archer 2009), in Mukdahan province, NE-Thailand ( Pitakpong et al. 2015) and common in the southern provinces of Thailand. Graphis cincta is not very variable except for the spore size. It is growing on bark of various trees in open situations in secondary forests, dry dipterocarp forests or plantations or rarely in glades of tropical rainforests at low elevations (15–40 m).

Material from Thailand examined:— Chumphon province: Pathio district, tambon Chum Kho, along the side road ca. 300 m from Pathio-Thong junction to Bang Son Bay, on bark of an unidentified tree in a secondary forest, 20 m, 10°26’28’’ N, 99°13’54’’ E, 11 April 2009, J. Sutjaritturakan 2268, (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42285)—Phang-Nga province: Mueang district, in the area of Somdet Srinagarindra Thara, on bark of an unidentified tree in a tropical rainforest, 15 m, 08°25’59’’ N, 98°31’06’’ E, 29 April 2012, J. Sutjaritturakan 4314, 4343, 3760 (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42337, 42282, 42289)—Nakhon Sri Thammarat province: Mueang district, tambon Tha Rai, besides the road in front of Peampraporn farm, in a Cassia plantation ( Senna spectabilis ), 40 m, 08°25’06’’ N, 99°50’53’’ E, 15 October 2012, J. Sutjaritturakan 4830, (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42288)— Trang province: Palian district, in the area of Ton Pae Waterfall, in a papaya plantation ( Carica papaya ), 25 m, 07°15’29’’ N, 99°40’44’’ E, 24 May 2009, J. Sutjaritturakan 3101 & S. Siemmai (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42284)— Songkhla province: Rattaphum district, tambon Kamphaeng Paet, in the area of Khao Tok Nam temple, in a rosy trumpet tree plantation, 40 m, 07°08’21’’ N, 100°15’31’’ E, 26 May 2012, J. Sutjaritturakan 4416, 4419, (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42290, 42283).
