Sabicea pollen type

Material. Sample Pb-9334, Palynology Laboratory, IGLUNAM.

Description. Monad pollen, isopolar, radiosymmetric, amb circular. Triporate, lolongate pore. Exine semitectate, columellate, 2 µm thick, microreticulate, simplicolumellate.

Dimensions. Equatorial diameter 27 P m, one specimen measured .

Comparisons. Pollen grains of the genus Sabicea , with finely reticulate exine and dimensions ranging from 32 to 36 P m, have been reported for the Miocene of Panama ( Graham, 1987); however, the Sabicea pollen type recovered from the Cuayuca Formation is smaller (27 P m in equatorial diameter).

Other occurrences. Central America – early Miocene La Culebra Formation, Panama ( Graham, 1987). There are no previous records of this genus in Mexico.
