Homoneura (Homoneura) litorea View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 39–41 View FIGURES 39 – 44 , 45–48 View FIGURES 45 – 48 )

Diagnosis. Frons longer than wide, margins slightly converging anteriorly. Antenna yellow, arista short plumose with longest setulae 1/3 height of 1st flagellomere. Palpus black on apical 1/3. Mesonotum with two narrow brown stripes along dc rows, 3 dc (anteriormost dc at transverse suture), acr in 4 somewhat irregular rows. Wing hyaline, with five isolated pale brown spots, preapically on R2+3, R4+5 and M1, a brown stripe on r-m and dm-cu; subcostal cell slightly brown. Abdomen pale yellow.

Description. MALE. Body length 2.3–2.8 mm, wing length 2.7–3.0 mm. FEMALE. Body length 2.8–2.9 mm, wing length 2.9–3.0 mm.

Head pale yellow. Frons with sparse grayish white pruinosity, pale yellow except slightly orange yellow on anterior margin, longer than wide, with margins slightly converging anteriorly; ocellar triangle yellow; oc developed, longer than anterior or; anterior or slightly shorter than posterior or; gena nearly as high as 1/3 height of eye. Antenna yellow; 1st flagellomere 1.5 times longer than height; arista dark except for brownish basally, short plumose with longest setulae 1/3 height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis yellow, with yellowish and blackish setulae; palpus yellow except for black apical 1/3, with dark setulae.

Thorax ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 39 – 44 ) pale yellow. Mesonotum with grayish white pruinosity; two narrow brown stripes along dc rows; 3 dc (anteriormost dc at transverse suture); acr in 4 rows, outer row somewhat irregular, uniformly short hair–like; prsc longer than anteriormost dc. Legs pale yellow. Fore femur with 3 strong pv, 6 pd, and ctenidium with 11–12 short bristles; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 5 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with 3 av and 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 39 – 44 ) hyaline, with isolated brown spots, preapically on R2+3, R4+5 and M1, and a brown stripe on r-m and on dm-cu; subcostal cell slightly brown; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 1.2 mm: 0.6 mm: 0.3 mm (2: 1: 0.5); r-m before middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 0.9 mm: 1.3 mm (1: 1.4); ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/11 of penultimate. Halter pale yellow.

Abdomen pale yellow. Male genitalia ( Figs. 45–48 View FIGURES 45 – 48 ): protandrium semicircular with dorsal setulae; epandrium with two pairs of long dorsal setae and a round dorsoapical process, surstylus nearly claw–like, with setulae along dorsal and ventral margins; hypandrium bridge–like, hypandrial apodeme short; gonopod slen- der subuliform with a short subbasal setula; aedeagal apodeme very short; aedeagus deeply incised with apicolateral sclerites convergent in ventral view, a pair of dark furcated apical segments within two lateral sclerites. Type material. Holotype 3 (CAUC), CHINA, Hainan Province: Haikou city, Holiday Beach (4 m), 9. VI. 2006, Hui Dong [20°02ʹ10ʺN 110°14ʹ16ʺE]. Paratypes: 2 3, 3 Ƥ, Hainan Province: data same as holotype. Distribution. China (Hainan).

Remarks. The new species is very similar to Homoneura (Homoneura) brevicornis in the following characters: frons yellow without brown stripes, antenna yellow, palpus yellow except for black apically; mesonotum with two narrow brown stripes along dc rows, lower margin of face being less than three times as wide as height of gena; surstylus with a curved apical process; gonopod slender with a short subbasal setula. But the new species can be separated from the latter by the wing having isolated pale brown spots preapically on R2+3, R4+5 and M1, the protandrium being semicircular, the aedeagus being deeply incised with apico-lateral sclerites convergent in ventral view, and a pair of brown membranous bifurcated apical processes being within two lateral sclerites, and the aedeagal apodeme being very short. In H. (H.) brevicornis , the wing has distinct brown spots with a preapical spot on R2+3 and an apical spot on R4+5 extending upward to the costal margin, the protandrium is circular, the aedeagal sclerites have a pair of semicircular apical concavities in ventral view, and the aedeagal apodeme is long.

Etymology. From Latin, litorea , meaning littoral or of the seashore, referring to the species being collected at Holiday Beach; a feminine adjective.
