Halys spinosula Lefebvre, 1831: 21 ; Mustha serrata Amyot & Serville, 1843: 106 (non Fabricius, 1794).

Distribution in Iran. Alborz ( Wagner 1968), East Azarbaijan ( Hoberlandt 1997; Havaskary et al. 2012), Fars ( Safavi 1959; Farahbakhsh 1961; Hoberlandt 1997; Modarres Awal 1997b), Golestan ( Hoberlandt 1955; Safavi 1959; Farahbakhsh 1961; Modarres Awal 1997b; Heiss 2002; Linnavuori 2008), Guilan, Tehran ( Linnavuori 2008), Khorasan ( Linnavuori 2008; Modarres Awal 2008; Mehneh et al. 2010; Nateq Golestan & Modarres Awal 2012), Kuhgiloyeh & Boyerahmad ( Hoberlandt 1997), Mazandaran ( Kiritshenko 1949; Farahbakhsh 1961; Modarres Awal 1997b; Sakenin et al. 2008), Semnan ( Jakovlev 1877; Oshanin 1906, 1912; Farahbakhsh 1961; Modarres Awal 1997b), West Azarbaijan (Nateq Golestan 2004; Nateq Golestan et al. 2004, 2010a, b, c, 2011), Iran (no locality cited) ( Rider 2006).

General distribution. Ponto-Mediterranean from Balkanic Region to Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan, Near East ( Syria, Israel) (P. Moulet, unpublished data), Sinai and probably elsewhere in Egypt ( Derjanschi & Péricart 2005).

Host plants. On different forest trees ( Farahbakhsh 1961; Modarres Awal 1997b), deciduous trees such as Prunus sp. ( Rosaceae ), Quercus sp. ( Fagaceae ), also found on Cupressus ( Cupressaceae ) ( Linnavuori 2008), Fraxinus syriaca ( Oleaceae ), Tradescantia virginiana ( Commelinaceae ), Ulmus campestris ( Ulmaceae ) (Sakenin et al. 2008), Crataegus sp. ( Malaceae ) ( Linnavuori 2008; Nateq Golestan et al. 2010a, 2011), Prunus armeniaca ( Rosaceae ), Populus sp. ( Salicaceae ) ( Nateq Golestan et al. 2011), Juglans regia ( Juglandaceae ) ( Nateq Golestan et al. 2011; Nateq Golestan & Modarres Awal 2012), Artemisia sp. ( Asteraceae ) ( Nateq Golestan & Modarres Awal 2012); collected on Acacia ( Fabaceae ) in Iran and on Olea ( Oleaceae ) in Cyprus ( Derjanschi & Péricart 2005).

Comments. An unknown species, Mustha sp. was recorded by Sadaghian et al. (2004) and Nikdel et al. (2011) from East Azarbaijan; we suspect that it was M. spinosula .
