Redescription. Length 1.90–2.35 mm ( Fig. 29–32 View FIGURES 19–36 ). Integument blackish brown except for reddish apical half of rostrum, antennae and legs; on dorsum densely covered with whitish to light brown scales arranged in doubletriple row on elytral interstriae and seta-like brown scales in single median row. Rostrum ( Fig. 153–156 View FIGURES 149–172 ) slightly curved (Rl/Rw 4.33–4.38 in male, 4.63–4.69 in female; Rl/Pl 0.80–0.93 in male, 0.90–1.00 in female), moderately tapered from base to apex. Antennal funicle 7-segmented. Eyes convex, distinctly prominent. Pronotum transverse (Pw/Pl 1.13–1.28), with weakly rounded sides in basal half, widest at middle. Elytra oval (El/Ew 1.20–1.33; Ew/Pw 1.27–1.42), with somewhat rounded sides from base, widest in basal half. Femora ( Fig. 259–260 View FIGURES 243–274 ) with indistinct tooth. Profemora and protibiae ( Fig. 315 View FIGURES 307–339 ) without sexual characters. Claws with robust medial teeth, as long as 3/4 of claw. Male genitalia: body of penis ( Fig. 372 View FIGURES 372–379 ) slightly constricted at middle, narrowed only until near apex, with blunted tip ( Fig. 405 View FIGURES 397–431 ), as long as half of apodeme. Female genitalia: spermatheca ( Fig. 438 View FIGURES 432–457 ) with indistinct ramus and collum, robust nodus, robust cornu narrowed until near apex; spiculum ventrale ( Fig. 464 View FIGURES 458–484 ) with arms joined from base to apex.
Remarks and comparative notes. This species was placed in a monobasic group by Caldara (1990) based on the shape of the male genitalia, mainly due to the uncommonly long apophysis of the penis and the spermatheca possessing indistinct ramus and collum. It seems to be one of the most common species in the oriental Palearctic countries, where it is easily distinguishable from the other species by its small size, notwithstanding genitalia, combined with the pattern of the elytral vestiture.
Biology. No data are available.
Distribution. Widely distributed throughout eastern Asia (Siberia, Mongolia, Korea, Japan) including China (FUJ GUX HEB SHX TIA); new records from Northeast China (HEI JIL NMO), North China (BEI), East China (JIX), Central China (HUN) and Northwest China (SHA).
