Atropacarus (Hoplophorella) hamatus ( Ewing, 1909)

( Figs 9. A–G View FIGURE 9. A – G )

Measurements of single specimen: prodorsum: length 185, width 131, height 76; sensillus 111, setae: interlamellar 28, lamellar 23, rostral 25; notogaster: length 374, width 264, height 207; setae: c1 48, h1 38, p1 35; genitoaggenital plate 88 x88; anoadanal plate 121 x81.

The size, body proportions and other morphological characters do not differ from those of the type specimen ( Niedbała 2002). The only distinct difference is that the body surface of the specimen from Kinabalu NP is covered by adjacent irregular fovea, whereas the surface of the body of the type specimen is covered by rather rounded, spaced fovea.

The notogastral anterior collar may not be a species-distinguishing feature and so A.(H.) cucullatus ( Ewing, 1909) and A.(H.) hamatus ( Ewing, 1909) may be synonyms. Bernini et Avanzati (1988a, b), taking also into account certain biochemical characters, have shown that the presence of an anterior notogastral hood is not a species-distinguishing feature and they have synonymised Steganacarus (Tropacarus) pulcherrimus (Berlese, 1987) with Steganacarus (Tropacarus) carinatus (C.L.Koch, 1841) and Steganacarus (Steganacarus) anomalus ( Berlese, 1883) with Steganacarus (Steganacarus) magnus ( Nicolet, 1855) .
