Michaelcallianassa indica Sakai 2002: 481 , figs. 11A–C, 12A–D, 13A–G, 14A–J; Sepahvand & Sari 2010: 47, fig. 6; Sakai 2011: 450; Sepahvand et al. 2013: 4; Sepahvand et al. 2014: 138.
(?) Callianassa View in CoL sp.—Al-Yamani et al. 2012: 302, pl. 316a–c.
Material examined. Kuwait: 1 female, OUMNH. ZC. 2020.01.042, Failaka Island , 29°23.409’N 48° 23.927’E, shallow subtidal partly exposed at low tide (0–0.3 m), muddy bottom close to rocky platform, suction (yabby) pump, in burrow, leg. A. Anker, 03.x.2019 [fcn KUW-076] GoogleMaps ; 1 female, KISR, Failaka Island , eastern side, shallow subtidal flat partly exposed at low tide (0–0.3 m), sand-mud, suction (yabby) pump, in burrow, leg. A. Anker, 12.ii.2020 [fcn FA-013] ; 1 female, MNHN-IU-2019-3185, same collection details [fcn FA-012].
General distribution. Northern Indian Ocean:Arabian Gulf ( Kuwait, Iran) and Andaman Sea ( Thailand) ( Sakai 2002; Sepahvand et al. 2013; present study).
Ecology. Lower intertidal and subtidal, down to at least 65 m ( Sakai 2002; Sepahvand et al. 2013; present study); sand-mud bottoms, in burrows.
Remarks. The holotype of M. indica from the Arabian Gulf, as well as the paratypes and additional material from Thailand were collected by dredges at depths ranging from 14 to 65 m, whilst most specimens from Qeshm Island ( Iran), as well as the present female from Failaka Island ( Kuwait), were found in the lower intertidal. It is possible that the larvae of a ghost-shrimp species identified as Callianassa sp. in Al-Yamani et al. (2011) belong to M. indica . In Kuwait, M. indica can be separated from B. massomi by the smooth ventral margin of the major cheliped carpus ( Fig. 13D View FIGURE 13 ) and the deeply emarginate posterior margin of the telson ( Fig. 13C View FIGURE 13 ).
