Paratepa clisias ( Meyrick, 1912) , new combination
Cnephasia clisias Meyrick, 1912: 685 .
Eulia clisias : Clarke 1958: 120.
“Unplaced Euliini View in CoL ” clisias : Powell et al. 1995: 146; Brown 2005: 341.
Diagnosis and remarks. Cnephasia clisias was described by Meyrick (1912) based on two females, which he misidentified as males; no additional specimens have been reported since. Clarke (1958) transferred the species to the catch-all Neotropical genus Eulia , designated a lectotype, and illustrated the latter along with its genitalia ( Clarke 1958: 120, figs. 2, 2a, 2b). Neither Powell et al. (1995) nor Brown (2005) were able to assign it confidently to a genus, listing it under “Unplaced Euliini .” However, based on the illustration of the lectotype in Clarke (1958), the adult has a forewing pattern similar to those of Paratepa and Atepa , and the strongly sclerotized posterior portion of the ductus bursae is likewise similar to those of female P. ferruginea and P. argentinana . Based on these features, the species is provisionally transferred to Paratepa . Paratepa clisias is easily distinguished from congeners by the strongly undulate posterior margin of the sterigma.
Types. Lectotype ♀, Argentina, Paraná, JFGC slide 6345 ( NHMUK).
Paralectotype ♀. Argentina, Paraná ( NHMUK) .
Distribution and biology. This species is known only from the two specimens from the original description, collected in Paraná, Argentina.
