Material examined. INDONESIA, Papua Prov. [= former Irian Jaya Prov.]: 1 male, Ajkwa River basin, wetlands in former Ajkwa River channel near Km. 21 on Portsite road, 16 km. S. of Timika, 15 m. [50 ft.], 4°39'55"S, 136°53'50"E, water temp. 26.5° C., pH 7.4, 21 January 1997, 10:00–11:00 hrs., CL 7053, D. A. Polhemus ( USNM).
Discussion. This species is widespread across the northern margin of Australia and in southern New Guinea. The record below is the first from rivers draining to the Arafura Sea between the Merauke and Etna Bay, and fills a major gap in the distribution records for this taxon ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).
This is the species listed as “ Dineutes neohollandicus ” in Polhemus & Polhemus (1998).
