Remarks.
Dorcadion semenovi is a very variable species, which includes ten subspecies that are distributed in the area of northern Kyrgyzstan, southeastern Kazakhstan and western China ( Danilevsky 2002, 2018a). Its nominotypical subspecies is distributed to the northeast of Lake Issyk-Kul, mainly in the environs of the villages of Kegen and Narynkol ( Danilevsky 2002, Toropov and Milko 2013). It inhabits foothills and river valleys at altitudes of 1600-3200 m a.s.l. The larvae feed on the roots of various grass species. The imagines are active from the end of April to the end of June, depending on the altitude on which they occur ( Toropov and Milko 2013).
Most of the specimens were collected from a few different localities in the environs of Kegen. At a plot located 2 km N of Kegen, this species was observed in a mountain steppe habitat sympatrically with D. crassipes crassipes and D. arietinum arietinum . Although the plot (Fig. 13D) was mainly covered with high tufts of grass, there were also large, bare sandy spots. This species seems to have a long period of its occurrence. In May of the same year, numerous specimens were found in very good condition; however, over a month later, some live (although damaged) males (Fig. 13G) and females were still found.
