Bombus flavidus Eversmann, 1852

Bombus flavidus is a boreo-alpine species, distributed in the north of the Eurasian continent, Scandinavia and Siberia, where the nominal subspecies spreads. It is the social parasite of B. jonellus , but in the Pyrenees it shows preference for B. pyrenaeus and secondarily by B. monticola ( Løken 1984, Rasmont 1988). There is a double threat to B. flavidus since the two main host species have small and declining populations ( Table 2).

It was assessed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of European Bees (Rasmont et al. 2015) and as Endangered (EN) in the IUCN Spanish Red List (Ornosa & Torres 2009), where it is locally less abundant ( Table 2). In the Pyrenean fauna, it is represented by a unique subspecies:

Loken, A. (1984) Scandinavian species of the genus Psithyrus Lepeletier (Hymenoptera: Apidae). Entomologica Scandinavica Supplement, 23, 16438,

Rasmont, P. (1988) Monographie ecologique et zoogeographique des Bourdons de France et de Belgique (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Bombinae). Faculte des Sciences agronomiques de L´Etat, Gembloux, 310 pp.
