Diagnosis. Antenna short but reaching first chaetiger (inserted on posterior half of prostomium). Secondary ciliary organs present. Three prebranchial segments. Branchiae numbering up to 23 pairs; with rounded tips. Modified notochaetae absent. Neuropodial capillaries not thicker than notopodial ones. Modified neurochaetae without terminal spine and with tip strongly curved and bearing hood.

Distribution. Mediterranean ( Laubier 1966; Campoy 1981). Eastern Atlantic, from Øresund and Skagerrak ( Kirkegaard 1996) and Norway ( Rygg 2002) to Portugal ( Pardal et al. 1992). Western Atlantic, from North Carolina ( Day 1973) to the Caribbean ( Díaz-Díaz et al. 2009).
