Note.
The only species known from the Guianas that would agree with Meyer’s description is Euploca humilis . Förther (1998: 238) lists Messerschmidia incana as a synonym of Heliotropium ternatum [= Euploca humilis ] with a question mark, but Meyer placed a synonym in the protolog of his new species, Tournefortia sessilifolia Poir. (1804: 360), a species described from Argentina. Because sessilifolia was available in Messerschmidia , it should have been used as the epithet. Therefore the name by Meyer is not validly published.
