Type species: Rafapicobia zirnitra Skoracki, 2011 View in CoL , by original designation.
Diagnosis. FEMALE. Hypostomal apex tapering. Peritremes mouth-shaped. Setae vi situated anterior to level of setae ve. Propodonotal shield entire and shirt-like bearing all propodonotal setae except c2, or divided into 2 lateral shields bearing bases of setae si and se and large unpaired medial shield bearing bases of setae vi, ve and c1. Opisthonotal and genital lobes absent. Bases of setae 1a separated. Pseudanal series represented by 2 pairs of setae. Genital series with 1 pair of setae. Apodemes I without thorn-like protuberances. Solenidia phi (φ) on tibiae I absent. Physogastric form weakly enlarged, bulb-shaped in outline.
MALE. Features as in females except: genital series with 2 pair of setae.
Species included. Nine species: R. brotogeris ( Fain et al., 2000) comb. nov., R. dendrocolaptesi Skoracki and Solarczyk, 2012 , R. lepidocolaptesi Skoracki and Solarczyk, 2012 , R. melzeri Skoracki et al., 2014 , R. milenskyi Glowska and Schmidt, 2014 , R. ramphastos ( Fain et al., 2000) comb. nov., R. thamnophili Glowska and Schmidt, 2014 , R. toxostoma Sikora et al., 2011 , and R. zirnitra Skoracki, 2011 .
Host range. Gruiformes : Rallidae .
Passeriformes : Conopophagidae , Furnariidae , Mimidae , Muscicapidae , Thamnophilidae .
Psittaciformes : Psittacidae .
Distribution. Nearctic ( USA), Neotropical ( Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Paraguay, Venezuela), Palearctic ( Germany, France, Kirghizia, Poland), and Sino-Japanese ( China, Japan) regions.
