Saussurembia Davis 1939 View in CoL (= Saussurella Davis 1939 , homonym), type species.
Saussurella Davis 1939 View in CoL e was recognized as a preoccupied name by Davis (1940b) and replaced with Saussurembia Davis 1940 View in CoL b. According to Article 67.8, the two names have the same type species. Davis (1939e) described Saussurella View in CoL based on the species Embia ruficollis de Saussure 1896, but this was a
misidentification ( Ross 1992; 2003b). Davis (1939e) based his new genus expressly on a specimen examined by him and identified by Navás (1924) as Oligotoma ruficollis (de Saussure). Embia ruficollis de Saussure 1896 is actually a species now placed in Chelicerca View in CoL ( Ross 1992; 2003b). However, when an author employs the name of a species as the type of a new genus, but expressly in the sense of a misidentification, then the author is deemed to have established a new nominal species bearing the specific name in combination with the new nominal genus (Article 11.10 of the 2000 Code, Article 11i of the 1985 Code), and that species is the type of the new genus. In other words, by basing the new genus Saussurella View in CoL on an express misidentification of Embia ruficollis (sensu Navás (1924)) Davis (1939e) established the new species Saussurella ruficollis Davis 1939 e. Ross (1992) did not adhere to Article 11.10 (Article 11i) in dealing with this issue. Instead, he erected a new name, Saussurembia davisi Ross 1992 View in CoL , for the species misidentified by Davis (1939e) and Navás
(1924) based on specimens collected by him in Costa Rica. Because of this, Saussurembia davisi Ross 1992 is recognized here as a junior subjective synonym of Saussurembia ruficollis ( Davis 1939e) (new synonym). This assumes, of course, that Ross (1992) correctly identified his holotype specimen as the same species as that misidentified by Davis (1939e), but he indicated that the specimen examined by Davis (1939e) (which is the holotype of Saussurella ruficollis Davis 1939 e) was also examined by him (1992).
