Type Locality: " Chili," restricted by Cabrera (1957) to "alrededores de Valparaíso." [ Chile].

Vernacular Names: Molina's Hog-nosed Skunk.

Distribution: N Argentina, Bolivia, S Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Kipp (1965) considered rex as conspecific with chinga ; however, it was listed as separate by Osgood (1943) and Cabrera (1957). Synonyms allocated according to Cabrera (1958).
