Listroptera carbonaria Chevrolat View in CoL
Fig. 2 View Figs
Listroptera carbonaria Chevrolat, 1855: 178 View in CoL ; Aurivillius, 1912: 429 (cat., syn.); Monne´, 1993: 79; Monné and Giesbert, 1995: 126.
Listroptera Germari White, 1855: 209 View in CoL .
Holotype Male. Integument black, opaque. Frons broader than long. Genae ½ as long as lower eye lobes. Antennae exceeding elytral apices by two segments; scape shallowly grooved, sparsely punctate, the punctures denser apically; segments 3–11 densely micropubescent, 3–5 sparsely setose beneath; segments 6–8 subequal, longer than V, 9–11 as long as 5. Pronotum not carinate at apical half; antemedian gibbosities separated, somewhat acuminate, the basal ones more transverse and acuminate; surface impunctate. Prosternum and sides of the prothorax microcorrugate, without coarse punctures. Meso and metasterna opaque, clothed with short, blackish pubescence. Metasternum without coarse punctures. Scutellum quadrangular, rounded truncate at apex. Elytra somewhat elongate, about 3 times as long as the width across humeri, feebly expanded behind middle and attenuate at apices which are narrowly truncate; dorsal costae weakly prominent; basal half finely, shallowly punctate, the punctures not seriate; pubescence not reaching scutellum; dark vittae large at base. Epipleuron finely, shallowly punctate, weakly asperate. Metafemoral clubs weakly enlarged, little longer than elytra. Tibiae somewhat impressed, not furrowed. Urosternites microcorrugate, densely clothed with very short, whitish pubescence. Urosternite 5 attenuate apically, rounded at apex.
Measurements, in mm: total length, 9.0; prothorax length, 1.7; prothorax width, 1.8; elytral length, 6.8; humeral width, 2.3.
Types. We examined the holotype of Listroptera carbonaria Chevrolat (1855) ( BMNH), described from Caracas, Venezuela and labelled as follows: 1) Type; 2) Bowr. Chevr. 63. 47*; 3) Listroptera carbonaria Chevr. Venezuela; 4) Listroptera carbonaria Chevr., 1855 , Caracas, Rojas. The specimen is probably a female because it lacks the coarse punctures on the sides of the prothorax and the coarse punctate patch on each side of the prosternum; the metafemora also indicate that is a female. The holotype of Listroptera germari White (1855) ( BMNH), also from Venezuela, was studied by means of color slides and we corroborate the synonymy proposed by Aurivillius (1912).
Geographical Distribution. At present, this species is known only from Venezuela.
