Distribution. France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland ( Nikitsky & Pollock 2008). M. variegata is mentioned in the Catalogue of Palearctic Coleoptera ( Nikitsky & Pollock 2008) as introduced to the United Kingdom. As there is no other published record of the species from the United Kingdom, and considering the known distribution and information from M.W.L. Barclay (London), the occurrence of M. variegata in United Kingdom is here considered doubtful. Sanchez et al. (2015) reported the first specimen-based record from Switzerland (Salvan, in 2014). Concerning Germany, the species is known only from Unteres Moseltal near Winningen (Rhineland Palatinate) in 2012 ( Hörren 2015).
