COMMON NAME (S): Saturniid or Edible caterpillars (= Finamiunga, in Bemba, a local language in Zambia). SYNONYM(S): None.
IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).
DISTRIBUTION: Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia , Rwanda, Tanzania , Zambia , Zimbabwe. LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Luapula and Northern Provinces ; Lusaka , in Lusaka Province; Kopa, in Muchinga Province ; Kasempa, in Northwestern Province .
LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include: two Fabaceae species ( Vachellia xanthophloea (Benth.) P.J.H.Hurter and A. melanoxylon R.Br. ) in the Tanzania; one Fabaceae subspecies ( Acacia polyacantha subsp. c ampylacantha
(A.Rich.) Brenan) in the Democratic Republic of Congo; two ( Brachystegia spiciformis Benth. and
Julbernardia globiflora (Benth.) Troupin ) and one Fabaceae species ( Cassia sp. ) in unnamed countries in Africa . No specific host plants for the taxon are known in Zambia. The African Moths (2019) webpage simply lists the following species of plants as hosts of the taxon in the countries listed above; three
Fabaceae species ( Acacia polyacantha Willd. , A. xanthophloea Benth. and Acacia melanoxylon R.Br. ),
three Fabaceae species ( Brachystegia spiciformis Benth. and Julbernardia globiflora (Benth.) Troupin )
and Cassia sp.
